Our classes in our bone clinic are designed to help you build stronger bones (improve bone mineral density), improve your strength, and stay active and independent for longer.

WHY Bone Health matterS
Bone density naturally declines as we age. This can increase the risk of fractures, osteoporosis, and loss of independence.

WHY RESISTANCE TRAINING matterS
Resistance training is one of the most effective ways to improve bone density.
Resistance and impact training are some of the most effective ways to improve bone density. When your muscles pull on your bones and your body experiences load, impact, and movement forces such as bending and twisting, this creates a stimulus for your bones to become stronger over time.
There is often confusion around the “best” way to train for bone health.
Some research, including the LIFTMOR trial, has shown benefits from higher load strength training using lower repetition ranges. However, other high quality research shows that both higher and lower load training can improve bone density, as long as the exercises are challenging.
The most important factors are:
• Progressive overload
• Exercises that are challenging for you
• A program tailored to your current capacity
• Consistency over time​

ABOUT OUR BONE HEALTH CLASSES
Our classes are designed to provide safe, effective, and individualised strength training in a supportive environment.
Each session includes:
• 45 minute classes
• Full body strength training circuits
• Exercises targeting all major muscle groups
• Individually tailored weights and progressions
• Safe and appropriate impact exercises where suitable
• Close supervision by an experienced physiotherapist
• Immediate feedback and technique correction
• Exercise modification based on your needs
• Small group setting with a maximum of 4 people
• A supportive and social training environment
No previous strength training experience is required.

These classes are ideal if you:
• Have been diagnosed with low bone density (osteopaenia) or
osteoporosis
• Want to reduce your risk of fractures
• Are unsure how to start strength training safely
• Want guidance from a physiotherapist
• Prefer a small group environment with individual attention
• Want to build confidence with resistance training
how to get started
Before joining a class, you will complete an initial assessment.
This allows us to:
• Understand your medical history
• Assess your current strength and movement capacity
• Identify any limitations or risks
• Introduce exercises suited to your level
• Discuss your bone health and other important factors such as nutrition
Following this, we will guide you into the most appropriate class.
